It was a lovely surprise to see how trendy and cool Buenos Aires turned out... The last time I was in Buenos Aires was almost 10 years ago, so you can imagine how different everything was to me...
Day 1: My first day in Buenos Aires started with a trip to Palermo Soho a very trendy neighborhood that is part of the Palermo Viejo, full of cool shops, cafes and restaurants... My first stop was for brunch at Bar Uriarte with a Mediterranean and Italian cuisine. We spent some hours enjoying the atmosphere and the fine Argentinian malbec wines. From there, we walked in direction to Plaza Serrano, where you will find several Fairs, inside of bars, full of new designers. It is just a big concentration of people walking around, checking out the latest Argentinian fashion designs... But the stores that called most my attention and I recommend to check it out are: Akiabara (very casual clothing), the traditional Papelera Palermo, Paula Cahen, Trosman, Boutech (it is a very cool store that sells leather cases for Iphones, blackberries, computers and mobiles)... Also, a good spot for lunch or dinner is the Restaurant Mott e El último beso (this restaurant-bar-boutique has a very charming ambiance with open air tables. I just fell in love with this place...) At night, we chose the trendy restaurant Sucre, but prepare yourself to wait for hours for a table, if you don't have a reservation. Sucre's cuisine is contemporaneous, very good drinks and beautiful people. After dinner go to La Calle Baez in Las Cañitas,there you will find one bar beside another and just opened a new club called Mute. Another clubs to check out are Asia de Cuba, Mint, Niceto, and Crobar...
Day 2: On Sunday, I went to the famous Antique Fair in San Telmo, it is a very picturesque scene full of great furniture, vintage clothing and jewelry... Around the main square, there are several bars that people just hangout and enjoy the tango performances performed by the street dancers... If you want to have lunch in the neighborhood, you should, definitely, go to Café San Juan and have a taste of the traditional Porteña cuisine and still come back to check out more antique. Another great choice for the Sunday brunch is to go to OuiOui, a French small restaurant, with a young and cool crowd, located at Palermo Hollywood.. We loved the food and the cozy atmosphere!! Also, you should consider having brunch or dinner at the restaurant Olsen, which offers a Nordic menu with a great selection of vodkas, besides that Olsen has a great open-air area, perfect for sunny days. On Sunday night, we went to check out the restaurant Campo Bravo in Las Cañitas, which was the place to be on a Sunday night, because was full of people hanging out outside just enjoying the end of the weekend.
Day 3: A trip to Buenos Aires wouldn't be complete without a stop by at the Florida Street, located just in the heart of Buenos Aires's Downtown. At Florida Street, you will find several popular fur and leather shops... Also, you will find one of the main malls of the city, the famous Galerias Pacíficos. After a morning of shopping, nothing better than to have a great lunch at Puerto Madero, where you can find all the best restaurant, bars and nightclubs of the city. I had a great lunch at La Caballeriza Madero a very good steak house and just beside you will find the famous Cabana Las Lilas, also a great option for steak lovers. Later, the shopping spree continues at the fancy Patio Bullrich ..... After all this action, I was exhausted. Unfortunately, it is time to pack..... Mi Buenos Aires querido, I will be back soon and I promise this time, I won't wait 10 years to come back...
Ps1: There are some other places that I didn't have time to check out, personally, but all my sources told me that they are great:
- Casa Cruz;
- Osaka;
- The Bar @ Hotel Faena; and
- Gran Bar Danzon
Ps2: The website www.guiaoleo.com.ar has all the information of the restaurants, I have listed here.
